La Corrèze
The little-known department that has some nice surprises in store.
Discover
It's a department that's often overlooked, and yet it offers beautiful views and truly wonderful things to see and do without being overwhelmed by the influx of tourists.
The landscape, very different from that of Lot or Périgord, is much more oriented towards white water and small hills because this department could almost be considered the beginning of Auvergne.
You can discover castles like Turenne , the 3 castles of the village of Curemonte , the Castel de Vassinhac de Collonges la Rouge and the Tours de Merle .
Amazing sites with the Fage chasm , the Pans de Travassac (old slate quarry) and various waterfall sites or even Gallo-Roman remains.
Corrèze is also a department full of majestic religious sites such as the Abbey of Aubazine and the Monks' Canal ,the Abbey Church of Saint-Pierre in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, the caves of Saint-Antoine de Padoue in Brive and many other collegiate churches and chapels.
Typical villages are worth seeing, such as Meyssac or Collonges-la-Rouge and their red stones, Aubazines , Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne or Argentat and its half-timbered houses above the river.
At the many markets you can discover Limousin apples, chestnuts, various varieties of cheese, Limousin beef and many other Corrèze specialties.
